Successful Completion of the 2026 Spring (April) Short-term Program

The 2026 Spring(April) Short-term Program concluded concluded with a completion ceremony held on April 24(Fri). A total of 84 students across eight classes participated in the program. During the program, students not only attended Korean language classes but also took part in a variety of Korean cultural experiences. As part of the cultural program, students visited the Seoul Museum of History, where they learned about the city’s past and created their own tumblers by drawing Seoul’s major landmarks. At Unhyeongung Palace, they wore traditional hanbok, learned about Korean etiquette, and experienced traditional Korean games. At the completion ceremony held on April 24, students expressed their gratitude to their instructors for helping them improve their Korean language skills over a short period of time. They also shared that the diverse cultural experiences made their time both meaningful and memorable. The Ewha Language Center will continue to offer a variety of programs to help students gain a deeper understanding of the Korean language and culture.

Roundtable Meeting with Partner Universities for the Spring 2026 Intensive Program

For the Spring 2026 Intensive Program, students from partner universities in Japan—Keisen University, Konan Women’s University, Senshu University, and Aichi Shukutoku University—are participating in the program and taking Korean language courses. The Ewha Language Center organized this roundtable meeting to review the students’ progress in learning Korean and to identify any challenges they may be experiencing while living in Korea. The meetings were held sequentially by university from Monday, April 13 to Monday, April 20. During the sessions, students shared their feedback on various aspects of their study abroad experience, including Korean language classes, cultural courses, and buddy programs, as well as their overall life in Korea. The participating students expressed a high level of satisfaction with both the academic program and their daily lives. The Ewha Language Center plans to continue supporting students so they can successfully complete the remainder of their program. The semester will run until Monday, May 18.

Spring 2026 Intensive Program Cultural Classes: Hanbok Experience and Palace Tours

The cultural classes for the Spring 2026 Intensive Program were held from March 27 (Fri) to April 3 (Fri). During this semester’s cultural program, students participated in a hanbok (traditional Korean attire) experience. Level 3 students wore hanbok and learned traditional Korean etiquette while also enjoying traditional games through an etiquette class held at Unhyeongung Palace. Level 1–2 students visited Gyeongbokgung Palace in hanbok, while Level 4–6 students explored Changdeokgung Palace, listening to guided explanations. This cultural program provided students with a valuable opportunity to wear hanbok—often seen in Korean dramas and films—and to gain a deeper understanding of Korea’s traditional culture and history.

2026 Korean Language Customized Program for Triam Udom Suksa School, Thailand

From March 25 (Wed) to March 31 (Tue), 2026, a one-week Korean Language Customized Program was held at the ELC for students from Triam Udom Suksa School in Thailand. A total of 23 high school students currently studying Korean in Thailand visited the ELC during their school break to improve their language skills and experience various aspects of Korean culture. The program consisted of Korean language classes, a campus tour of Ewha Womans University, interaction with Ewha students, a K-pop dance class, and a walking tour of Seoul. The K-pop dance session was particularly popular, with students showing such enthusiasm that they learned an additional song beyond the original curriculum. The participants expressed high satisfaction with both the Korean language classes and cultural activities, while noting that the program felt too short. By providing a blend of language education and cultural immersion, this customized program served as a meaningful opportunity for students to improve their Korean proficiency and deepen their understanding of Korean culture.

Successful Completion of the 2026 Spring (March) Short-term Program

The 2026 Spring (March) Short-term Program concluded on March 24 (Tue). The program began on March 4 (Wed), with a total of 105 students participating, divided into seven classes. During the program, students participated in Korean language classes alongside a variety of cultural activities, including a Korean cooking experience (making gungjung tteokbokki) and a visit to Changdeokgung Palace. The opportunity to wear hanbok (traditional Korean attire) during the palace visit was particularly well received by participants. At the completion ceremony held on the final day, student representatives from each level shared their reflections. Despite the short duration, they described the program as a meaningful experience that allowed them to communicate in Korean and participate in diverse activities firsthand. They also expressed their sincere gratitude to their instructors. A special session dedicated to thanking the instructors added a warm and heartfelt atmosphere to the event. Through a well-balanced combination of language learning and cultural experiences, the program offered students meaningful and memorable experiences and concluded successfully.

2026 Spring Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony

The Scholarship Award Ceremony for the 2026 Spring Semester Intensive Program was held on Wednesday, March 18. The event was organized to encourage a total of eight students who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement during the previous winter semester. The ceremony was attended by Kim Eun-sung, Director of the ELC, and Chu Jeong-ah, Vice Director, along with faculty members and fellow students. In their acceptance speeches, the scholarship recipients expressed their sincere gratitude to the teachers who helped improve their Korean proficiency and to the ELC officials for providing the financial support. All attendees cheered for the students' successful Korean language studies, and the ceremony concluded in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

2026 Spring Semester Begins at the ELC!

The 2026 Spring semester, the first term of the year for the Ewha Language Center (ELC), has officially begun. The Spring(March) Short-term Program commenced on March 4(Wed), the Intensive Program commenced on March 6(Fri). To celebrate the arrival of the warm spring season, a variety of hands-on Korean cultural programs have been prepared. Students from each course are set to experience traditional Korean culture firsthand, including visiting royal palaces while wearing Hanbok. In the Short-term Program, the "Gungjung Tteokbokki(Royal court-style Tteokbokki) Making" class—a highly popular dish among international students—was held alongside the Hanbok experience, receiving an enthusiastic response. Meanwhile, in the Intensive Program, student-led extracurricular activities such as the Exploration Club and Dance Club have begun their sessions, adding a vibrant energy to the campus. The Spring(March) Short-term program will conclude on March 24(Tue), while the Intensive Program is scheduled to end on May 18(Mon).

Retirement Ceremony for Professor Hyunjin Kim

The Ewha Womans University Language Center (Director Eun-sung Kim) held a retirement ceremony for Professor Hyunjin Kim on Tuesday, February 10, in Room 101. This event held special significance as the first-ever retirement ceremony since the Center's founding. The ceremony was attended by the Director and fellow faculty members to honor the occasion. Since joining in 1997, Professor Hyunjin Kim has dedicated nearly 30 years to laying the foundation for Korean language education at the Center. She has led the institution's growth by contributing to various fields, including curriculum and textbook development, as well as international cooperation. During the ceremony, the Director expressed deep respect and gratitude for her years of service in a farewell tribute. In her retirement speech, Professor Kim shared her reflections on her time at the Center and offered heartfelt advice for the future of Korean language education. Following the speech, faculty members offered a warm round of applause to celebrate Professor Kim’s new chapter. The event concluded with a group commemorative photo.

Cultural Classes for the 2025 Winter Intensive Program

Cultural classes for the 2025 Winter Korean Language Intensive Program were held on Friday, January 2, 2026. Students in Levels 1 to 3 took part in New Year’s card-making activities in their respective classes, while students in Levels 4 to 6 visited the Seoul Museum of History. Afterwards, all students gathered at the theater to watch the Painters performance together. Through these activities, students had the opportunity to experience and appreciate Korean culture with their classmates, enjoying a meaningful and enjoyable day away from their regular academic routine.

Completion of the 2025 Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Commissioned Program

On Friday, December 26, 2025, the commissioned program for Singapore Nanyang Technological University (the 2025 NTU-EWHA Winter Korean Language Immersion Program) was successfully concluded. A total of 58 students from NTU participated in the program from December 8 to December 26. In the mornings, students attended Korean language classes, while in the afternoons they took part in a wide range of Korean cultural activities. These included Korean cooking experiences, creating Hangul-designed keychains, visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace in Hanbok, touring the National Museum of Korea, participating in K-pop dance classes, and watching The Painters performance. In addition, students participated in a campus tour of Ewha Womans University and a buddy program with Ewha students. All 58 participants successfully completed the program with excellent academic performance. The program offered the students a meaningful opportunity to enhance their Korean language proficiency and deepen their understanding of Korean culture. Based on the high level of participant satisfaction, ELC plans to further expand a variety of international exchange programs through continued collaboration with Nanyang Technological University.
