2023 Spring Intensive Program Completion Ceremony

The completion ceremony for the 2023 Spring Intensive Program took place on May 18th (Thursday) at 12:00. During the ceremony, a video showcasing the first day of each classes, campus tour, Korean language classes, Korean culture classes, and after-school culture club activities for each level from Level 1 to Level 6, was screened. Outstanding achievement awards and completion certificates were presented to the students. Graduating students from Level 6 also received graduation certificates and commemorative gifts. Following that, the ceremony concluded with students sharing their reflections on the program and discussing their future plans. Students exchanged congratulations with their classmates and expressed gratitude to their teachers, looking forward to meeting again in the upcoming semester. The Summer Intensive Program will commence on June 8th (Thursday).

2023 Spring 2nd(April) Short-term Program Completion Ceremony

The completion ceremony for the 2023 Spring 2nd(April) Short-term program was held on April 25th (Tue) at 5 p.m. The ceremony consisted of watching a video showing the activities of the students during the 3-week program, awarding certificates of excellence and completion, congratulatory speeches, and students' speeches on their experiences during the program. During the program, students participated in various Korean culture classes such as "Hanbok experience and Namsangol Hanok Village tour" and "making a personalized seal and exploring Insadong." 2023 Spring 2nd(April) Short-term program is a 3-week program that focuses on Korean language and culture classes. It is mainly for students who want to intensively learn Korean during their vacation or break period.

2023 Spring Intensive Semester After-school Culture Class

Ewha Language Center offered an after-school cultural class for students who are participating in 2023 Spring intensive semester. On April 26th and 27th, the students visited the Presidential Blue House, including the main building, Yeongbingwan, the beautiful Nokjiwon garden, and Sangchunjae. The tour was attended by over 40 students and was the first culture class held at the Presidential Blue House by Ewha Language Center since its opening to the public in May, 2022. Ewha Language Center at Ewha Womens University provides various Korean cultural experience activities for students studying Korean language.

2023 Spring Semester Intensive Program Culture Class: Visit to the Korean Folk Village

Students from 2023 Spring Semester Intensive program at Ewha Language Center, visited the "Korean Folk Village" for their Culture Class. During the visit, students experienced traditional Korean life and traditional games such as Swinging, Yutnori, and Tuho. After having lunch with classmates and their homeroom teacher at the marketplace in the folk village, the students watched various performances such as the Samdo Nori, Sato(Regional official)'s birthday party, and Sori Hanmadang. This was the first 8-hour on-site culture class since the outbreak of COVID-19. The students enjoyed their time taking pictures of their experiences and the performances. Ewha Language Center’s Intensive program offers various and interesting Korean cultural experiences every semester.

2023 Spring Semester After-school Cultural Class

On March 30th, Ewha Language Center at Ewha Womans University offered an after-school cultural class for students enrolled in the spring intensive program. The class focused on learning K-pop dance, and students who participated in the "Learn K-Pop Dance" program had a fun time learning the choreography for the popular song "Ditto" by NewJeans, and filming group videos. The program was led by instructors from the Dance Wang Academy, and students responded positively to the professional dance instruction. The Ewha Language Center at Ewha Womans University also offers various cultural experiences for international students studying Korean language.

Completion Ceremony for 2023 Spring 1st(March) Short-term Korean Language Program

The Completion Ceremony for 2023 Spring 1st(March) Short-term Program was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 5:00 PM. Students from level 1 to level 3 were awarded certificates of completion and outstanding achievement, and shared their thoughts on the course and their future plans. They also congratulated their classmates and expressed their gratitude to the teachers. The 3 week short-term program is a class that teaches Korean language and culture. The beginner's class used the textbook "Essence Ewha Korean" tailored for the short-term course, and cultural classes included "Janggu and Samullori, Traditional Play Experience" at the National Gugak Center and "Korean Food Making" at the Korean Food Promotion Institute. Students from Momoyama Gakuin University and Seinan Gakuin University, which are exchange universities, also participated in the March short-term program.

2023 Spring Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony

The scholarship award ceremony for the Spring 2023 Intensive Course was held on March 21st (Tuesday). Eight students were selected as scholarship recipients, each being the top achiever in their respective classes. The ceremony was attended by Director Lee Eun-joo, Vice-Director Lee Geum-suk, and teachers from the Korean Language Education Department who congratulated the scholarship recipients. The ceremony included congratulatory remarks from Director Lee Eun-joo, presentation of the scholarship certificates, student speeches, and a commemorative photo session. The students will receive 50% of their intensive course tuition as a Korean language excellence scholarship. Ewha Language Center at Ewha Womans University awards academic excellence scholarships to students every semester.

Visit from Arcadia University in the United States

On March 14th, 2023, 18 students from Arcadia University in the United States, professor Lee Joon-yong and professor Logan Fields visited Ewha Language Center. For students with little to no experience in learning Korean, the Center provided a Korean alphabet class ('Hello! Korean language!') and under the guidance of instructor Jung Si-won, the students wrote their names in Korean for the first time. Afterwards, the students attended a special class on Korean culture ('Pop Goes Korea: a brief introduction to Korean culture') by Professor Kwon Kyung-mi from the Korean Studies department at Ewha Womans University. Through the lecture on the origin of K-Pop, the students had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Korean culture. The students also had lunch at the student cafeteria and took a campus tour of university led by a campus leader from Ewha Womans University. Arcadia University has maintained a relationship with Ewha Womans University for over 20 years.

Opening of 2023 Spring Semester

The spring semester of the Ewha Language Center in 2023 has begun. The intensive courses started on March 8th(Wed), while the short-term courses began on March 6th(Mon). The Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK) preparation course, a special program, will start on March 15th(Wed), and both short-term and comissioned courses will also be offered during this semester, starting in April. The spring semester will be conducted entirely in-person, following the current COVID-19 guidelines. The opening ceremony was held in each class, and the orientation for new students, campus tour, and cultural activities for intensive courses and after-school activities will be held in groups. The spring semester intensive courses will end on May 18th(Thu), 2023.

Cultural Activity for Level 1-2 Students of 2022 Winter Intensive Korean Language Program

The 1st and 2nd level students of the intensive language program at Ewha language center participated in a cultural activity called ‘calligraphy’ from December 26 to December 28. This time the activity was comprised of ‘Introduction to Korean Calligraphy and Practice’ and ‘Making a pouch.’ At ‘Yhlayuen Jeongak Academy,’ located in Insadong, students had a chance to trace the given Korean phrases with a pen brush and decorate their own pouches with Korean letters and pictures as they liked. They had quality time as Korean language learners by writing delicate sentences and some encouraging messages toward themselves. In addition, after the cultural activity, they visited the cultural streets such as Ssamjigil and Annyeonginsadong, having an enjoyable time with their peers. Every semester the intensive language program at Ewha language center offers a variety of chances for valuable cultural activities to students.
